Fondant Trip to Lancaster, Pa.

We are now experiencing a  50 degree heat wave – so after 2 months of a hard winter it is time to winter feed our hives before the temperature plunges below zero again. We heard the C.O. Nolt & Son, Inc Wholesale  Bakery Supplier company offered  a fondant which is composed of only  sugar, water and corn syrup. We called them and they had three 50 lb. boxes left,  so yesterday we drove out to Lancaster, Pa. to pick up their fondant for winter-feeding our bees. In the past we have seen other manufactured fondant products which contained many ingredients including: Sugar, glucose syrup, hydrogenated vegetable oil, water, glycerine, tapioca starch, gum tragacanth, carboxymethyl cellulose, artificial flavor, sodium acetate and acetic acid – we wanted to avoid this type of fondant. Check out the picture of Mary standing by the Horse Ties area which is next to the Bakery warehouse loading deck- C.O. Nolt has Amish customers, some who drive their buggies to the warehouse.
